SENIOR OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH AND SAFETY OFFICER

Job Overview

A Senior Occupational Health and Safety Officer position is available at Head Office under reference REFS/056588 with a salary of R413 001 per annum. Applicants must hold a Grade 12 certificate plus an NQF Level 6/7 National Diploma or Degree in Environmental Health, Occupational Safety Management, or a related field, alongside 2 to 3 years of OHS experience and a valid driver's license. Professional registration with SAIOSH, SAIOH, or HPCSA is required. Responsibilities include policy implementation, conducting workplace inspections, hazard identification, risk assessments, and investigating injuries on duty. Requirements & Qualifications

• Grade 12 Certificate
• National Diploma / Degree (NQF Level 6/7) in Environmental Health, Occupational Safety Management, or relevant qualification
• A minimum of 2 - 3 years of experience in an OHS environment
• Valid driver’s license
• Skills: Problem Solving, Negotiation, Decision making, Resilience, Self-Motivation, Verbal & written communications, Interpersonal skills, Customer service
• Knowledge: Relevant Public Service Legislation, GDSACR and GPG policies, Project management, PFMA, Treasury Regulation, PSA, PSR, Change Management, Report writing, Facilitation skills, Research Methodologies, Employee Health and Wellness related
• Registration with professional bodies (SAIOSH/SAIOH/HPCSA)

Key Duties & Responsibilities

• Secure approval of Occupational health and safety policies and procedures in line with OHS requirements, safety guidelines, and OHS standards
• Implement policies and procedures pertaining to OHS to ensure employee performance is managed and monitored and skills development takes place
• Communicate approved policies, systems, and procedures to employees
• Coordinate training for all appointed statutory appointments
• Conduct workplace inspections
• Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of existing policies and procedures
• Monitor that statutory appointments are in place
• Establish OHS Committee as per legislation and uphold its stipulations
• Coordinate awareness for employees on OHS SOPs
• Assess maintenance of electrical and machinery equipment
• Conduct workplace Hazard Identification Risk Assessment (HIRA)
• Coordinate SHERQ training needs and risk register
• Monitor and evaluate disaster departments
• Develop minutes for OHS meetings and action plans
• Conduct investigation of reported near misses, occupational diseases, and injuries on duty under COIDA regulations
• Compile investigation preliminary reports and finalize reported cases
