Job Overview

The Mthatha Regional Office is seeking an Assistant Director: Internal Audit (Ref No: 2026/342) with a salary of R487 197 per annum. Candidates must possess a three-year tertiary qualification/National Diploma in Auditing or Accounting, hold IAT/PIA certification, be registered with the Institute of Internal Auditors, and have relevant auditing experience. Responsibilities include conducting audits, risk management, supervising fieldwork, drafting reports, and ensuring compliance with regulations like the PFMA and Treasury Regulations. Requirements & Qualifications

• Minimum of three-year tertiary qualification (NQF Level 06) / National Diploma in Auditing or Accounting.
• Internal Audit Technician (IAT) or Professional Internal Auditor (PIA) designation.
• Practicing Internal Auditor with appropriate years of experience as a senior internal auditor / internal auditor.
• Registration with the Institute for Internal Auditors.
• A valid driver's license.
• Knowledge of Global Internal Audit Standards, National Treasury Regulations, Public Finance Management Act (PFMA), and Institute of Internal Auditors Code of Ethics.
• Knowledge of phases of internal audit process, accounting standards, and best practices regarding risk management, internal control, and governance.
• Proficient computer literacy and numeracy.
• Advanced communication (verbal and written), project management, report writing, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work under stressful situations and against deadlines, travel, and work overtime.
• Security clearance.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

• Conduct audit, risk management, internal control, and governance processes.
• Supervise audit fieldwork and collect relevant, sufficient, and useful audit evidence.
• Assess and evaluate audit evidence, ensure the development of audit working papers, and formulate conclusions on audit findings.
• Develop draft and final internal audit reports.
• Ensure the provision of administrative functions of the Internal Audit component and coordinate office management systems.
• Examine financial and operating records and reports through audit programmes to ensure adequate and effective controls.
• Reconcile financial reports with reconciliation statements to ensure accurate records of transactions.
• Review and ensure compliance regarding policies, plans, procedures, legislation, and regulations.
• Confirm the existence and use of the asset register and verify the physical existence of assets.
• Appraise the economy and efficiency with which resources are employed and review operations against established goals.
• Supervise employees.
