Job Overview

The Department of Agriculture, Western Cape Government, is hiring two Veterinary Public Health Officers based in Elsenburg. Responsibilities include inspecting and auditing abattoirs for compliance with Meat Safety legislation, performing general legislative functions, and contributing to provincial meat safety. Applicants must possess an NQF level 6 National Diploma in Environmental Health, Animal Health, or Veterinary Public Health, at least one year of relevant experience, and a valid code B driving licence. Requirements & Qualifications

• Relevant National Diploma in Environmental Health, Animal Health, or Veterinary Public Health at NQF level 6 as recognised by SAQA
• A minimum of 1-year relevant experience
• A valid code B (or higher) driving licence
• Knowledge of environmental health legislation and policies
• Knowledge of meat safety legislation and policies
• Knowledge of regulatory framework of the public service
• Knowledge of municipal by-laws governing meat safety
• Knowledge of environmental affairs legislation
• Knowledge of food safety risk analysis and food safe auditing
• Computer literacy and report writing skills
• Organising, planning, and communication skills
• Analytical and presentation skills

Key Duties & Responsibilities

• Inspect abattoirs for compliance with Meat Safety legislation
• Audit abattoirs for compliance with Meat Safety legislation
• Perform general functions required by the Meat Safety legislation
• Contribute to meat safety in the province
