STATE VETERINARIAN: ANIMAL HEALTH

Job Overview

The Western Cape Government Department of Agriculture is seeking three State Veterinarians for Animal Health positions based in George, Stellenbosch, and Boland. Candidates must hold a BVSc/BVMCh or equivalent, be registered with the SAVC, possess at least one year of post-qualification experience, and hold a valid driver's license. Responsibilities include disease control, epidemiology, veterinary public health, emergency response, and administration. Applications must be submitted online.

Requirements & Qualifications

• An appropriate Bachelor of Veterinary Science (BVSc/BVMCh or equivalent qualification) recognised by the South African Veterinary Council
• Compulsory registration with the South African Veterinary Council (SAVC)
• A minimum of 1 year post qualification experience
• A valid (Code B or higher) driving license
• Knowledge of extensive fieldwork and exposure to infectious diseases
• Ability to work in high-pressure outbreak environments
• Physical mobility and ability to conduct inspections and investigations
• Availability for after-hours and emergency response
• Skills in computer literacy, financial management, statistical analysis, research, analytical thinking, communication, and interpretation
