Job Overview

The Department of Employment and Labour is seeking a Team Leader based at the Middelburg Labour Centre in Mpumalanga. The role requires a 3-year qualification in Labour Relations, Labour Law, LLB, or BCom Law, a valid driver's licence, and two years of experience in inspection and enforcement. Responsibilities include conducting labour inspections, investigating contraventions, appearing in court, managing case files, and ensuring employer compliance with labour legislation such as BCEA, LRA, and OHS.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Three (3) year relevant qualification in Labour Relations/Labour Law, LLB, or BCOM LAW
• A valid driver's licence
• Two (2) years of functional experience in the Inspection and Enforcement Service
• Knowledge of Departmental policies and procedures, Labour Relations Act, Basic Conditions of Employment Act, Skills Development Levies Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, COIDA, SABS Codes, Unemployment Insurance Act, UI Contributions Act, Employment Equity Act, and Immigration Act
• Facilitation skills
• Planning and Organising skills
• Computer literacy
• Interpersonal skills
• Conflict handling skills

Key Duties & Responsibilities

• Plan and independently conduct substantive inspections to ensure compliance with labour legislations including BCEA, LRA, EEA, UIA, COIDA, OHS, and UCA
• Plan and execute investigations independently on reported cases pertaining to contravention of labour legislation
• Make preparations for and appear in Court as a State witness
• Plan and conduct allocated proactive (Blitz) inspections regularly to monitor compliance
• Plan and conduct advocacy campaigns on all labour legislation independently and analyse their impact
• Manage the finalisation of files of cases received and investigations conducted by inspectors
• Contribute to planning, drafting, and maintenance of regional inspection plans and reports
• Ensure non-compliant employers are referred for prosecution within relevant time frames
