SOCIAL WORKER: CHILD PROTECTION SERVICES: GRADE 3

Job Overview

The Department of Social Development seeks a Social Worker: Child Protection Services Grade 3 in uMzinyathi District under reference DSD12/08/2026UMZINYATHI. Candidates require a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, registration with SACSSP, a minimum of 20 years post-registration experience, and a valid driver's license. Duties involve rendering social services for the care, support, protection, and development of vulnerable individuals and groups, supporting NPOs, keeping up with developments in social welfare, and performing administrative functions.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree (NQF Level 7) in Social Work
• Registration with the South African Council for Social Services Profession (SACSSP) as a Social Worker
• A minimum of 20 years appropriate experience in Social Work after registration as a Social Worker with SACSSP
• A valid driver's license
• Knowledge of Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, Public Service Act, Public Service Regulations, Batho-Pele principles, Labour Relations, Research Methodology, Public Finance Management Act, and Treasury Regulations
• Knowledge and understanding of human behaviour and social systems
• Ability and competence to assist, develop, advocate for, and empower individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities
• Understanding and ability to provide social services towards protecting vulnerable and at-risk people
• Ability to mentor and coach Social Workers Grade 1
• Knowledge of Employee Performance Management and Development System (EPMDS)
• Skills in communication (written and verbal), listening, interpersonal relations, computer literacy, research, problem solving, report writing, time management, presentation, facilitation, counselling, numeracy, language, and driving

Key Duties & Responsibilities

• Render a social service with regard to the care, support, protection, and development of vulnerable individuals, groups, families, and communities through relevant programmes
• Support Services Offices and Non-Profit Organisations (NPO's)
• Keep up to date with new developments in the social work and social welfare fields of probation services
• Perform all the administrative functions required of the job
