Job Overview

George Regional Hospital is seeking qualified Professional Nurses (Grade 1 to 2) for Specialty Nursing in Nephrology within the Chief Directorate: Rural Health Services. Applicants must possess a basic nursing qualification, a post-basic qualification or post-graduate diploma in Nephrology or Critical Care Nursing (Adult), and current SANC registration. Experience requirements range from 4 to 14 years of appropriate nursing experience. Duties include ensuring quality patient care, supervising specialised nursing care, resource utilization, and supporting clinical staff.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Minimum educational qualification: Basic R425 (diploma/degree in nursing) or equivalent qualification (R683) allowing registration with SANC as a Professional Nurse.
• A post-basic nursing qualification (at least 1 year) accredited with SANC in Medical and Surgical Nursing Science: Nephrology or Critical Care Nursing (Adult), OR a 4-year bachelor's degree in nursing (R174) or equivalent, plus a post-graduate diploma (R635) in Critical Care Nursing (Adult) or Nephrology.
• Current annual registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse.
• Grade 1 Experience: Minimum of 4 years appropriate/recognisable experience in nursing after registration as a Professional Nurse with SANC.
• Grade 2 Experience: Minimum of 14 years appropriate/recognisable experience in nursing after registration as a Professional Nurse with SANC, with at least 10 years after obtaining the 1-year post-basic qualification or post-graduate diploma.
• Willingness to work irregular hours, including weekends and public holidays, do standby duties, and rotate within the Nephrology unit.
• Ability to lift and turn patients, stand for long hours, and lift heavy equipment.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

• Ensure quality patient care regarding the identification of nursing care needs, planning and implementation of nursing care plans, and education of nursing personnel.
• Render and supervise specialised nursing care and support clinical staff with operational functions in the unit.
• Utilize human, material, and physical resources efficiently and effectively.
• Maintain and promote professional growth, ethical standards, and development of self and others.
• Display core values of the Department of Health WCG in the execution of duties.
• Provide optimal, holistic specialized nephrology nursing care within set standards and professional/legal framework.
• Ensure efficient and accurate documentation, statistical data collection capturing, and participation in research activities.
• Assist with the development and implementation of nursing quality improvement plans, policies, and standard operating procedures.
