PROFESSIONAL NURSE GRADE 1–3 – GENERAL STREAM

Job Overview

Prince Mshiyeni Memorial Hospital is hiring four Professional Nurses (Grade 1–3) for the General Stream within the Admission, Antenatal & Labour Ward. Candidates require a basic R425 qualification (Diploma/Degree in General Nursing and Midwifery) enabling SANC registration, with varying experience levels from none for Grade 1 up to 20 years for Grade 3. Responsibilities include supervising nursing plans, delivering quality patient care, acting as a shift leader, and working in a multidisciplinary team across shifts. Requirements & Qualifications

• Basic R425 qualification (i.e. Diploma/Degree in General Nursing and Midwifery) that allows registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse and Midwife.
• Current registration with the SANC (2026).
• Experience Grade 1: None.
• Experience Grade 2: A minimum of 10 years appropriate/recognizable experience in nursing after registration as a Professional Nurse with the SANC in General Nursing.
• Experience Grade 3: A minimum of 20 years appropriate/recognizable experience in nursing after registration as a Professional Nurse with the SANC in General Nursing.
• Knowledge of nursing care processes and procedures, nursing statutes, and other relevant legal frameworks (Nursing Act, Health Act, Occupational Health & Safety Act, Patient Rights Charter, Batho-Pele principles, Public Service Regulations, Labour Act, Disciplinary Code and Procedure, Grievance Procedure).
• Good communication skills and report writing skills.
• Knowledge Management, Planning & Organizing, and Computer Literacy.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

• Provide direction and supervision for the implementation of the nursing plan and quality patient care.
• Implement standards, practices, criteria and indicators for quality nursing care.
• Practise nursing and healthcare in accordance with laws and regulations relevant to nursing and healthcare.
• Maintain a constructive working relationship with nursing and other stakeholders.
• Utilise resources efficiently and effectively.
• Assist with relief duties of the supervisor and act as a shift leader on day and night duty when necessary.
• Provide appropriate nursing care to patients in the Admission, Antenatal and Labour Ward.
• Promote and advocate proper treatment and care, responding to patients' needs, requirements and expectations.
• Work as part of a multidisciplinary team to ensure nursing care that is cost-effective, equitable and efficient.
• Work shifts as per allocation, including night shift, weekends, and Public Holidays.
