Job Overview

Prince Mshiyeni Memorial Hospital is hiring a Professional Nurse Grade 1/2 in the Specialty Stream for the Admission, Antenatal & Labour Ward. Candidates require a basic R425 nursing qualification, SANC registration, and a post-basic qualification in Advanced Midwifery and Obstetrical Nursing Science with relevant experience. Requirements & Qualifications

• Basic R425 qualification (Degree/Diploma) in nursing or equivalent allowing registration with SANC as a Professional Nurse with Midwifery.
• Post-basic qualification in Advanced Midwifery and Obstetrical Nursing Science of at least one year, accredited with SANC.
• Certificates of Registration with SANC (General Nursing and Midwifery).
• Current registration with SANC (2026).
• Grade 1 Experience: Minimum of 4 years appropriate/recognizable experience in nursing after registration as a Professional Nurse in General Nursing.
• Grade 2 Experience: Minimum of 14 years appropriate/recognizable experience in nursing after registration as a Professional Nurse in General Nursing, with at least 10 years in Advanced Midwifery and Obstetrical Nursing.
• Knowledge of nursing legislation, policies, guidelines and professional/ethical practices.
• Knowledge and skills in the management of normal and high-risk pregnancy, labour, delivery and the postnatal period.
• Ability to identify and manage obstetric emergencies within the scope of practice.
• Good communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team.
• Basic computer literacy.
• Ability to plan, organise and provide quality nursing and midwifery care.
• Knowledge of Batho Pele principles and Infection Prevention and Control practices.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

• Provision of optimal, holistic and specialised nursing and midwifery care in the Admission, Antenatal and Labour Ward.
• Provide antenatal care and monitor patients during labour and delivery.
• Identify and manage obstetric emergencies and complications within the scope of practice.
• Effective utilisation of human, financial and material resources.
• Participate in training, research, quality assurance and clinical audits.
• Maintain accurate patient records and promote adherence to nursing and midwifery standards.
• Provide support to nursing services and work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Maintain professional growth, ethical standards and self-development.
• Attend meetings, workshops and training programmes as assigned by the supervisor.
• Assist with relief duties of the supervisor and act as a shift leader on both day and night when necessary.
• Work shifts as per allocation, including night shift, weekends and Public Holidays.
