FARM AID: FARMING (ELSENBURG)

Job Overview

The Department of Agriculture within the Western Cape Government is seeking a Farm Aid for a position based in Elsenburg (Reference: AGR 38/2026). The salary ranges from R144 024 to R169 656 per annum (Level 02). Applicants must hold an ABET level 2 certificate or equivalent, along with competencies in farm infrastructure maintenance, general farmwork, livestock care, and operating equipment. Responsibilities include crop irrigation, livestock vaccination and care, waste disposal, and maintaining farm infrastructure like fences, roads, and water supply systems. Requirements & Qualifications

• Abet level 2 certificate or equivalent
• Knowledge and understanding of farm infrastructure construction and maintenance
• Knowledge of general maintenance of infrastructure
• Knowledge of general farmwork

Key Duties & Responsibilities

• Perform general activities in respect of crop production including irrigation, soil cultivation, and preparation such as cleaning and hoeing
• Perform general activities in respect of livestock including caring for sick livestock, dipping, vaccination, and dosing
• Perform general cleaning of facilities and disposal of farm waste material
• Maintain and build infrastructure including roads, fences, pipelines, canals, dams, drinking troughs, animal housing, and buildings
• Maintain windmills and water supply systems
