Job Overview

The Department of Agriculture, Western Cape Government, is seeking a Farm Aid for Farm Services in Outeniqua under reference AGR 35/2026. This entry-level position offers a salary between R144 024 and R169 656 per annum. Candidates must possess an Abet Level 2 certificate or equivalent, along with skills in farm infrastructure maintenance, livestock care, crop production, and physical capability to handle weights up to 50 kg. Responsibilities include crop irrigation, livestock vaccination and dosing, facility cleaning, and maintaining farm infrastructure such as fences, roads, and water supply systems.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Abet level 2 certificate or equivalent
• Knowledge and understanding of farm infrastructure construction and maintenance
• General maintenance of infrastructure knowledge
• General farmwork knowledge
• Knowledge of working with farm animals and pastures
• Written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Ability to handle and carry weights of up to 50 kg

• Ability to operating equipment

Key Duties & Responsibilities

• Perform general activities in respect of crop production including irrigation of crops, soil cultivation and preparation (cleaning and hoeing)
• Perform general activities in respect of livestock including care for sick livestock, dipping, vaccination and dosing
• Perform general cleaning of facilities and disposal of farm waste material
• Perform general activities in respect of infrastructure including maintaining and building roads, fences, pipelines, canals, dams, drinking troughs, animal housing, and buildings
• Maintain windmills and water supply systems
