Job Overview

The Department of Agriculture, Western Cape Government, is seeking a Farm Aid for Farm Services in Oudtshoorn under reference AGR 34/2026. The position offers a salary of R144 024 to R169 656 per annum (Level 02). Requirements include an Abet level 2 certificate, livestock and ostrich handling knowledge, and basic literacy and numeracy. Duties involve livestock care, farm waste disposal, and infrastructure maintenance.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Abet level 2 certificate or equivalent
• Working knowledge and understanding of rearing ostrich chicks
• Working knowledge of general farm work and routine activities regarding infrastructure
• Working knowledge of livestock and plant production
• Handling of ostriches
• Research techniques
• Cleaning routine activities in respect of infrastructure
• Communication skills (written and verbal)
• Numeracy and Literacy
• Operating equipment
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Key Duties & Responsibilities

• Care for sick livestock including dipping, vaccination, and dosing
• Cleaning of facilities and disposal of farm waste material
• Maintain fences, pipelines, canals, dams, drinking troughs, animal housing, and buildings
• Maintain water supply systems
