DEPUTY DIRECTOR: MUNICIPAL ACCOUNTING & REPORTING

Job Overview

KZN Provincial Treasury is hiring a Deputy Director: Municipal Accounting & Reporting based in Pietermaritzburg with an all-inclusive salary package of R932 292 per annum. Applicants must hold a 3-year NQF7 qualification in Financial Accounting or Financial Management and possess at least 3 years of junior management experience in municipal financial reporting. Key responsibilities include coordinating municipal AFS compilation under GRAP, providing financial management support, ensuring audit readiness, and managing sub-directorate resources.

Requirements & Qualifications

• A 3-year NQF7 qualification in Financial Accounting or Financial Management field.
• A valid Driver’s license (with reasonable accommodations for people living with disabilities).
• A minimum of 3 years’ junior management experience in a municipal financial reporting/accounting/management environment.
• Extensive understanding and working knowledge of GRAP standards used by local government.
• Knowledge of Standards for the Professional Practices of Internal Auditing and General Accepted Accounting principles.
• Detailed knowledge of public sector financial management systems and relevant legislation including PFMA, MFMA, Municipal Systems Act, Municipal Structures Act, and Treasury Regulations.
• Computer literacy including MS Excel, MS Word, and PowerPoint.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

• Coordinate the provision of support to municipalities regarding the compilation of Annual Financial Statements (AFS) in compliance with Generally Recognised Accounting Practice (GRAP) Standards.
• Coordinate the provisioning of financial management support to municipalities.
• Coordinate audit readiness and review for municipalities.
• Coordinate consultative support and liaison services with Stakeholders.
• Manage the resources of the Sub Directorate.
