SENIOR EDUCATION SPECIALIST (LSPID): EDUCATION SOCIAL SUPPORT SERVICES

Job Overview

The Department of Education is seeking a Senior Education Specialist (LSPID) for Education Social Support Services at the Chris Hani West District Office. Candidates must hold a 3- or 4-year qualification with a professional teaching background, SACE registration, and 5 years of educational experience. Responsibilities include providing transversal outreach support, assessing learners with severe to profound intellectual disabilities, training caregivers and teachers, and advocating for inclusive education. A valid driver's licence and advanced computer skills are required.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Recognised 3- or 4-year qualification including a professional teacher qualification
• Registration with the South African Council of Educators (SACE) as a professional educator
• 5 years of experience in the educational field
• In-depth knowledge and understanding of education legislation and policies
• Ability to promote inclusive education and access to quality public funded education for learners with disability
• Experience working as part of a team and collaborating with stakeholders
• Ability to take initiative, work under pressure and problem-solve
• Experience in coordinating education and other support for learners with disabilities (added advantage)
• Valid driver's licence
• Advanced computer skills

Key Duties & Responsibilities

• Collaborate with team members in the provision of education support to designated schools and care centres on an itinerant basis
• Assess learners with severe to profound intellectual disability (LSPID) enrolled in schools and care centres
• Provide relevant support to learners and families
• Monitor and report on learners’ progress
• Train and support caregivers and teachers on the learning programme for LSPID
• Monitor and report on the implementation of the learning programme in designated schools and care centres
• Advocate for access to quality public funded education for LSPID
• Carry out administrative functions related to the support provided, including placement of out-of-school children in schools
• Provide support to other learners in the community as and when needed
