Job Overview

Port Shepstone Regional Hospital is hiring a Professional Nurse Specialty in Critical Care. Requirements include Grade 12, a Diploma/Degree in General Nursing and Midwifery, a post-basic qualification in Critical Care/Emergency and Trauma Nursing, at least 4 years of nursing experience post-registration, and a valid 2026 SANC receipt. Responsibilities involve providing comprehensive specialized nursing care, supervising staff, managing unit resources, and mentoring junior personnel. Requirements & Qualifications

• Grade 12 or Matric certificate
• Diploma / Degree in General Nursing science
• Diploma / Degree in Midwifery Nursing science
• 1 year post basic qualification in Critical Care / Emergency and Trauma Nursing Science
• A minimum of 4 years appropriate / recognisable experience in nursing after registration as Professional Nurse
• Valid SANC Receipt for 2026
• Leadership, organizational, decision making, supervisory and problem-solving abilities
• Knowledge of nursing care processes and procedures, nursing statutes and other relevant legal frameworks
• Communication and interpersonal skills including Public Relations, Negotiating, Coaching, Conflict handling and counselling skills
• Financial and budgetary knowledge pertaining relevant resources under management
• Computer skills in basic programmes
• Willingness to work shifts, day and night duty, weekends, and Public Holidays

Key Duties & Responsibilities

• Assist in planning, organizing and monitoring of objectives of the specialized unit
• Provide a therapeutic environment for staff, patients and the public
• Provide comprehensive quality nursing care
• Provide direct and indirect supervision of all Nursing Staff and Housekeeping staff, giving guidance and ensuring continuity of patient care
• Demonstrate effective communication with patients, families, the multi-disciplinary team, and other departments
• Assist with allocation, change lists, day and night duty rosters, and inputs for leave
• Assist in record keeping and provide statistical information on training and staffing
• Assist in EPMDS evaluation of staff and implement EAP
• Assist in orientation, induction and monitoring of all nursing staff
• Complete patient-related data and partake in research
• Promote quality specialized nursing care as directed by scope of practice and standards
• Act as junior shift-leader on both day and night shift
• Partake in overall specialized unit functions such as team building
• Ensure effective and efficient management of all resources
• Liaise with professional nurse in charge in surgical high care / renal unit
• Nurse critically ill patients and ventilated paediatric / high care patients in ICU for close monitoring
• Participate in the implementation of SANC CPD Framework
