Job Overview

Port Shepstone Regional Hospital is seeking a Professional Nurse-Specialty in Orthopaedics (Ref No: Psh 24/2026). The position offers a salary of R495 423 per annum plus a 12% rural allowance and benefits. Candidates must possess a Grade 12 certificate, diplomas/degrees in General Nursing, Midwifery, and Advanced Midwifery, a post-basic qualification in orthopaedic nursing, and at least 4 years of appropriate experience. Applicants must be registered with SANC. Duties include rendering specialized nursing care, supervising junior staff, and maintaining accreditation standards. Requirements & Qualifications

Grade 12 or Matric certificate
Diploma / Degree in General Nursing Science
Diploma / Degree in Midwifery Nursing Science
Diploma / Degree in Advanced Midwifery Nursing Science
1 year post basic qualification in orthopaedic nursing science
A minimum of 4 years appropriate / recognisable experience in nursing after registration as Professional Nurse
Registration with SANC as General Nurse, Midwife and Orthopaedic Nurse
SANC Receipt for 2026
Leadership, organizational, decision making, supervisory and problem-solving abilities
Knowledge of nursing care processes and procedures, nursing statutes and other relevant legal frameworks
Communication and interpersonal skills including Public Relations, Negotiating, Coaching
Willingness to work shifts, day and night duty, weekends, and Public Holidays

Key Duties & Responsibilities

Execute professional nurses' duties and functions with proficiency in support of the strategic operational plan of the Institution
Render optimal holistic specialized nursing care to patients as a member of the Multidisciplinary team
Display concern for patients, promoting and advocating proper treatment and care
Advocate for quality care of patients utilizing Batho Pele principles
Maintain accurate and complete patient records
Do meaningful rounds and monitor client satisfaction by communicating with patients and relatives
Assist the Operational Manager with overall management and necessary support for the effective functioning of the unit
Train and supervise junior staff and student nurses
Ensure effective and efficient management of resources and availability of essential equipment
Ensure the unit complies with Infection Prevention and Control as well as Occupational Health and Safety policies
