Job Overview

Oudtshoorn Hospital in the Garden Route District is hiring a Professional Nurse Grade 1 to 2 specializing in Trauma and Emergency. Applicants must possess a basic nursing qualification, a post-basic or post-graduate diploma in emergency or critical care nursing, and valid SANC registration. Experience requirements range from 4 to 14 years. Responsibilities include providing comprehensive specialized nursing care, participating in multi-disciplinary holistic health care delivery, implementing infection control policies, and supporting clinical practice development. A driver's license and willingness to work flexible hours are required.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Minimum educational qualification: Basic R425 qualification (diploma/degree in nursing) or equivalent that allows registration with SANC as a Professional Nurse.
• A post-basic nursing qualification with a duration of at least one year accredited with the SANC in Medical and Surgical Nursing Science: Critical Care Nursing: General or Trauma and Emergency, OR a 4-year bachelor's degree in nursing (R174) or equivalent with a post graduate diploma accredited in Emergency Nursing.
• Registration with SANC as a Professional Nurse.
• Grade 1 Experience: A minimum of 4 years appropriate/recognizable experience in nursing after registration as Professional Nurse with SANC in General Nursing.
• Grade 2 Experience: A minimum of 14 years appropriate/recognizable experience in nursing after registration as Professional Nurse with SANC in General Nursing, with at least 10 years of this experience obtained after the 1-year post-basic qualification or post-graduate diploma.
• Valid (Code B/EB) driver's license.
• Willingness to work overtime, weekends, standby duties and Public Holidays when needed.
• Demonstrate an in-depth understanding of nursing legislation and related legal and ethical nursing practices.
• Effective interpersonal, leadership, organisational, decision making and conflict resolution skills.
• Knowledgeable about South African Triage Scale (SATS) and Emergency Nursing.
• Good communication skills (verbal and written).
• Computer literacy (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).

Key Duties & Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive specialized nursing care provided within a professional / legal framework.
• Participate with the multi-disciplinary team to provide holistic health care, provide good documentation, care, planning and health education.
• Support and participate in clinical practice development initiatives, educational activities, and research.
• Effective implementation of infection control policies and health and safety legislation.
• Effective utilization of human and financial resources.
• Participate in training, development and research within the nursing department.
• Provide support services to Supervisor and Nursing division.
