Job Overview

Lentegeur Hospital under the Chief Directorate: Metro Health Service is hiring four Professional Nurses (Grade 1 to 2) specializing in Psychiatry. Candidates must hold a basic nursing qualification, registration with SANC as a Professional Nurse, and a post-basic qualification in Advanced Psychiatric Nursing Science or Mental Health Nursing. Experience requirements range from 4 to 14 years. Responsibilities include delivering specialized psychiatric care, resource management, staff development, and quality improvement.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Basic R425 qualification (diploma/degree in nursing) or equivalent allowing registration with SANC as a Professional Nurse.
• A post-basic nursing qualification with a duration of at least 1 year accredited with the SANC in Advanced Psychiatric Nursing Science (R212), or a 4-year Bachelor Degree in Nursing (R174) or equivalent with a post-graduate diploma (R635) in Mental Health Nursing.
• Registration with the SANC as a Professional Nurse.
• Grade 1 Experience: Minimum of 4 years appropriate/recognisable experience in nursing after registration as Professional Nurse with SANC in General Nursing.
• Grade 2 Experience: Minimum of 14 years appropriate/recognisable experience in nursing after registration as Professional Nurse with SANC, with at least 10 years after obtaining the 1-year post-basic qualification or post-graduate diploma in the relevant specialty.
• Willingness to work shifts, day and night duty, weekends, and public holidays.
• Willingness to rotate within the hospital.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
• Knowledge of relevant legislation and policies of the Department of Health and Wellness.
• Skills to plan, organize, and coordinate services through analysis, problem-solving, and decision-making.
• Computer literacy in MS Office packages (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Key Duties & Responsibilities

• Provide optimal, holistic specialized psychiatric nursing care within set standards and professional/legal framework.
• Ensure effective utilization of human, financial, and physical resources (equipment and consumables).
• Participate in appropriate personal/professional development activities for self, students, and other staff categories.
• Ensure efficient and accurate documentation, statistical data collection capturing, and participation in research activities.
• Assist with the development and implementation of nursing quality improvement plans, policies, and standard operating procedures.
