Job Overview

Valkenberg Hospital under the Chief Directorate: Metro Health Services is hiring four Professional Nurses (Grade 1 to 2) specializing in Mental, Acute Adult Female, Intensive Rehab Adult & State Patients. Candidates must possess a basic nursing qualification and a post-basic qualification in Advanced Psychiatric Nursing Science or a post-graduate diploma in Mental Health Nursing, along with active SANC registration and relevant nursing experience. Responsibilities include providing holistic psychiatric nursing care, resource management, staff development, accurate documentation, and implementing quality improvement plans. Requirements & Qualifications

• Basic R425 qualification (Diploma/Degree in Nursing) or equivalent allowing SANC registration as a Professional Nurse, plus a post-basic nursing qualification (at least 1 year) in Advanced Psychiatric Nursing Science (R212).
• OR a 4-year Bachelor Degree in Nursing (R174) or equivalent, plus a post-graduate diploma (R635) in Mental Health Nursing.
• Registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse.
• Grade 1 Experience: Minimum of 4 years appropriate/recognisable nursing experience after registration as a Professional Nurse with SANC.
• Grade 2 Experience: Minimum of 14 years appropriate/recognisable nursing experience after registration as a Professional Nurse with SANC, with at least 10 years after obtaining the 1-year post-basic qualification or post-graduate diploma.
• Willingness to perform shiftwork, rotation in night duty, and over weekends/public holidays, and to rotate within the hospital.
• Knowledge and experience of Community Mental Health at PHC level.
• Good interpersonal, planning, and organisational skills.
• Computer literacy (MS Word, Excel & Outlook).
• Knowledge of the Mental Health Care Act, Child Care Act, Nursing Act and other relevant legislation.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

• Provide optimal, holistic specialized psychiatric nursing care within set standards and professional/legal framework.
• Effective utilization of human, financial and physical resources (equipment and consumables).
• Participation in appropriate personal/professional development activities for self, students, and other categories of staff.
• Ensure efficient and accurate documentation, statistical data collection capturing, and participation in research activities.
• Assist with the development and the implementation of nursing quality improvement plans, policies, and standard operating procedures.
