Job Overview

The Chief Directorate: Metro Health Services has advertised nine Pharmacist Assistant (Post-Basic) positions across Grades 1 to 3, located at various facilities including Nolungile CDC, Macassar CDC, Kleinvlei CDC, Khayelitsha CHC, Nomzamo CDC, Mfuleni CDC, and Gustrouw CDC. Candidates must hold a Post-Basic Pharmacist Assistant qualification and active registration with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC), with varying years of experience required depending on the grade. Key competencies include computer literacy, familiarity with JAC, Medsas, RMD, and the CDU system, and the ability to work under pressure.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Minimum educational qualification: As required by the training facility and the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC) plus Post-Basic Pharmacist Assistant qualification that allows registration with the SAPC as a Pharmacist Assistant (Post-Basic) (Institutional).
• Registration with the SAPC as a Pharmacist’s Assistant (Post-Basic) or as Pharmacist Assistant (Post-Basic) (Institutional).
• Experience for Grade 1: None after registration with the SAPC as Pharmacist’s Assistant (Post-Basic).
• Experience for Grade 2: A minimum of 5 years’ appropriate experience as Pharmacist Assistant after registration as a Pharmacist Assistant (Post-Basic) with the SAPC.
• Experience for Grade 3: A minimum of 13 years’ appropriate experience as Pharmacist Assistant after registration as a Pharmacist Assistant (Post-Basic) with the SAPC.
• Good computer literacy.
• Ability to work as part of a team or independently.
• Ability to work under pressure.
• Fluent in JAC, Medsas and RMD.
• Familiar with CDU system.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

• Assist with reading and preparation of a prescription under the direct personal supervision of a pharmacist.
• Assist with the selection, manipulation or compounding of medicine under pharmacist supervision.
• Assist with the labelling and supply of medicine in an appropriate container following the interpretation and evaluation of the prescription by a pharmacist.
• Assist with the provision of instructions regarding the correct use of medicine supplied and information to individuals to promote health.
• Assist with the distribution, control of and ordering of medicine and scheduled substances.
• Assist with the compounding or manufacturing of a non-sterile or sterile medicine or scheduled substance according to a formula and standard operating procedures approved.
• Assist with general housekeeping and administrative tasks.
