Job Overview

The Emergency Medical Services in the West Coast is hiring Paramedics across Grades 1 to 4. Candidates must possess relevant qualifications such as a Critical Care Assistant certificate, National Diploma, or BTech in Emergency Care, alongside active HPCSA registration. Responsibilities include leading clinical governance, monitoring emergency response performance, mentoring prehospital care providers, and driving quality improvement initiatives. Applicants must hold a valid code C1 driver's license and PrDP, demonstrate physical and mental fitness, and possess strong communication and computer skills.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Grade 1: Successful completion of the Critical Care Assistant (CCA) programme allowing registration with the HPCSA as Paramedic; no experience required after registration.
• Grade 2: Successful completion of the Critical Care Assistant programme or a Recognized National Diploma allowing registration with the HPCSA as Paramedic; 7 years experience after registration for CCA or none for National Diploma.
• Grade 3: Successful completion of CCA, National Diploma, or BTech Degree allowing registration with the HPCSA as Paramedic or ECP; required experience ranges from none for ECP up to 14 years for CCA.
• Grade 4: Successful completion of CCA, National Diploma, or BTech Degree allowing registration with the HPCSA as Paramedic or ECP; required experience ranges from 10 years for ECP up to 24 years for CCA.
• Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) in the relevant category.
• Physical and mental fitness.
• Valid code C1 driver's license.
• Valid professional driver's permit (PrDP).
• Excellent knowledge of all levels of emergency care protocols within the scope of registration category.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Computer literacy and skills.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

• Lead the development and implementation of comprehensive quality improvement frameworks for emergency care delivery from roadside to bedside.
• Establish and maintain robust clinical governance structures, including incident reporting, adverse event management, and patient safety protocols.
• Monitor and evaluate clinical performance against established emergency response timeframes and quality benchmarks.
• Coordinate systematic collection and analysis of patient feedback, complaints, compliments, and clinical outcomes.
• Provide strategic clinical leadership and mentorship to prehospital emergency care providers.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop evidence-based clinical protocols, care pathways, and operational guidelines.
• Design and facilitate continuous professional development programs, including clinical coaching and competency assessments.
• Establish clinical oversight mechanisms to support real-time decision-making and maintain clinical excellence standards.
• Lead root cause analysis processes for clinical incidents and develop corrective action plans.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, professional standards, and organisational policies across service platforms.
