Job Overview

Port Shepstone Regional Hospital is hiring an Operational Manager (Night Duty) on a permanent basis with a salary of R571 161 per annum plus benefits including rural allowance. Applicants must possess a Grade 12 certificate, Diplomas or Degrees in General Nursing, Midwifery, and Health Service Management, computer literacy, current SANC registration, and a minimum of 7 years post-registration clinical experience in a hospital environment. Requirements & Qualifications

• Grade 12 / Matric or Equivalent
• Diploma / Degree in General Nursing Science
• Diploma / Degree in Midwifery Nursing Science
• Diploma / Degree in Health Service Management
• Certificate in computer Course
• Current registration with SANC as General Nurse, Midwife / Accoucher and Health Service Manager
• A minimum of 7 years clinical experience in nursing after registration as General Nurse and Midwife in a hospital environment
• Current SANC receipt for 2026
• Leadership, management, planning, organizing and co-ordination skills
• Knowledge of relevant Acts, prescripts, policies and procedures governing health care service delivery
• Basic financial management skills
• Knowledge of Code of Conduct, Labour Relations and related policies

Key Duties & Responsibilities

• Diagnose and manage obstetric emergencies in the absence of a doctor
• Identify high risk clients during ante-partum and post-partum periods and manage or refer them accordingly
• Develop vision, mission, and objectives for the obstetric unit
• Develop, implement and review obstetric policies and SOPs
• Conduct Perinatal Mortality reviews or meetings
• Develop and implement in-service education and quality improvement programs for the obstetrics department
• Act as an advocate for clients utilizing Batho Pele principles
• Participate and lead in all obstetrics programs including PPIP, PMTCT, BBI, MBFI, and RHC
• Provide leadership and ensure optimal, holistic specialized O&G nursing units within set standards
• Plan, organise, coordinate, monitor nursing activities and disaster management
• Monitor and promote Infection Prevention and Control Practices, patient safety and quality improvement
• Ensure effective management and utilization of human, financial, and material resources
• Supervise and support nursing personnel, ensuring adherence to protocols and standards of care
• Ensure unit compliance with OHSC and IHRM Standards
• Coordinate and facilitate orientation, in-service training, mentoring and continuous professional development
