OHS: INSPECTOR: CIVIL AND CONSTRUCTION ENGINEERING

Job Overview

The Department of Employment and Labour is hiring an OHS Inspector: Civil and Construction Engineering based in Lephalale, Limpopo. Responsibilities include planning and conducting safety inspections, ensuring compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, investigating incidents and complaints, appearing in court as a state witness, and conducting advocacy campaigns. Applicants must hold a Senior Certificate and a three-year qualification in Construction Engineering, along with a valid driver's licence. Knowledge of relevant labour legislation such as COIDA, the Unemployment Insurance Act, and OHS regulations is required.

• Registration with a relevant, recognised professional body is an advantage

Key Duties & Responsibilities

• Plan and independently conduct inspections to ensure compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Regulations and incorporated Standards
• Confirm registration with the Unemployment Insurance Act and the Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases Act
• Plan, investigate and finalise independently incidents and complaints reported pertaining to the OHS Act and enforce as necessary
• Appear in Court as a State witness
• Plan and conduct allocated proactive inspections as per schedule to monitor compliance with relevant labour legislation
• Compile and consolidate reports emanating from inspections
• Plan and conduct advocacy campaigns on all labour legislation independently, analyse impact, and compile reports
• Contribute to planning, drafting and maintenance of regional inspection plans and reports
• Execute analysis and compilation of consolidated statistical reports on regional and allocated cases
