MUSEUM ASSISTANT: SATELLITE MUSEUM (TULBAGH)

Job Overview

The Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport in the Western Cape Government is hiring a Museum Assistant for its Satellite Museum in Tulbagh. Requirements & Qualifications

• Grade 12 equivalent or higher qualification (NQF 4)
• A minimum of 1-year relevant experience
• Knowledge of history, purpose and functions of museums in society, including potential for national building and tourism development
• Knowledge of museum ethics
• Knowledge of current primary, secondary and field history research techniques of selection, evaluation and exhibition of objects of material culture or presentation of living history
• Knowledge of collections management (information management) and preventive conservation
• Knowledge of education methodology in museums
• Knowledge of project planning and management, including financial management
• Knowledge of legislation, policy and regulations relating to the sector
• Knowledge of government-driven service improvement initiatives such as Batho Pele
• Numeracy, literacy, computer literacy, and language skills
• Ability to motivate own ideas and approaches, break down problems, and identify solutions
• Ability to listen well, be receptive to others' ideas, manage conflict, and communicate with ease and confidence

Key Duties & Responsibilities

• Assist with the administration of the museum and related activities
• Facilitate, present and implement public programmes and maintain public relations
• Facilitate, present and implement educational and outreach programmes
• Engage in research and implement exhibitions
• Assist with the promotion and marketing of the museum
