Job Overview

Bongani Regional Hospital, Welkom, is hiring Medical Specialists in Obstetrics & Gynaecology (Grades 1 to 3). Candidates require a Senior Certificate, MBChB, and active HPCSA registration as a Medical Specialist in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. Experience ranges from none for Grade 1, to 5 years for Grade 2, and 10 years for Grade 3. Responsibilities include patient care, clinical duties, supervising junior staff, clinical governance, conducting audits, and performing compulsory commuted duties. Requirements & Qualifications

• Senior Certificate/ Grade 12
• Appropriate tertiary qualification in Health Science (MBChB)
• Appropriate qualification that allows registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Medical Specialist in Obstetrics and Gynecology
• Initial and current annual registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Medical Specialist in Obstetrics and Gynecology (2026/2027)
• Grade 1: No experience required
• Grade 2: A minimum of 5 years relevant experience after registration with HPCSA as a Medical Specialist in Obstetrics and Gynecology
• Grade 3: A minimum of 10 years relevant experience after registration with HPCSA as a Medical Specialist in Obstetrics and Gynecology
• Sound clinical concept within the specific domain
• Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team
• Teaching and supervisory skills
• Good verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills
• Knowledge of all Public Service Legislation, Policies and Procedures
• ACLS, ATLS, APLS certifications

Key Duties & Responsibilities

• Management of all medical conditions to ensure competent service delivery to all patients
• Briefing, informing and counselling patients and relatives regarding prevention, treatment, operative procedures, complications and rehabilitation
• Endeavour to become skilled in resuscitative measures and intensive care treatment to assure survival of critically ill patients
• Prescribe medications, order and interpret diagnostic tests, and assist in medical procedures and surgeries
• Supervise and train junior staff in medical care and key medical interventions
• Reduce medical litigation by exercising good clinical ethos, completing medico-legal documentation, and maintaining adequate medical records
• Perform clinical governance and ensure compliance with legal and statutory requirements (FSDoH, OHSC, HPCSA, CMSA, UFS)
• Consult patients on an outpatient basis for optimal chronic disease management and long-term follow-up
• Render outreach and support services to other levels of care in drainage areas within the Free State Province
• Perform compulsory and non-negotiable commuted duties in line with relevant policy
• Conduct clinical audits and monitor and evaluate relevant clinical effectiveness indicators
