Job Overview

Chief Directorate: Metro Health Services at Khayelitsha District Hospital is hiring two Medical Officers (Grade 1 to 3) in Anaesthetics. Responsibilities include providing pre-, intra-, and post-operative care, operating theatre duties, teaching students and interns, maintaining patient records, and participating in research. Applicants must be registered with the HPCSA as a Medical Practitioner and possess a Diploma in Anaesthesia with competencies in general and regional anaesthesia, alongside a willingness to work after hours and shifts.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Appropriate qualification allowing registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as Medical Practitioner
• Registration with the HPCSA as Medical Practitioner
• Grade 1 Experience: None after registration as Medical Practitioner with the HPCSA for SA qualified employees, or 1 year relevant experience for foreign qualified employees
• Grade 2 Experience: Minimum of 5 years appropriate experience as Medical Practitioner after registration with HPCSA for SA qualified employees, or 6 years for foreign qualified employees
• Grade 3 Experience: Minimum of 10 years appropriate experience as Medical Practitioner after registration with HPCSA for SA qualified employees, or 11 years for foreign qualified employees
• Willingness to work after hours, including shifts, weekends, public holidays and call out work from home
• Diploma in Anaesthesia with appropriate experience and competency in General and Regional Anaesthesia
• Sound general medical knowledge and skills
• Professional working attitude and compassionate towards patients

Key Duties & Responsibilities

• Provide meticulous pre-, intra- and post-operative care at the standards required of a medical officer in Anaesthesiology and Critical care
• Participate in normal and after hour duties in operating theatres
• Teaching and training of Anaesthesiology and Critical Care to undergraduate students, interns and peers in clinical areas
• Achieve Part one FCA (SA) exam and stay abreast of latest developments in the field of Anaesthesiology and Critical Care
• Complete the required CPD activities to maintain registration with the HPCSA
• Maintain accurate and detailed patient records of acceptable medico-legal standard
• Execute administrative duties required to maintain efficient service delivery
• Participate in research and clinical audits
