Job Overview

The Western Cape Government is seeking two Forensic Pathology Officers at Grade 1 to 2 levels based in Worcester and Ceres. Responsibilities include the recovery, storage, and processing of the deceased, supporting forensic autopsies, managing unknown corpses, and assisting with laboratory governance. Requirements include a Senior Certificate with Mathematics and Biology/Life Science, a valid driver's licence, and the physical capability to handle corpses. Requirements & Qualifications

• Minimum educational qualification: Senior Certificate with mathematics and Life Science and/or Biology as passed subjects.
• Experience: Grade 1: None. Grade 2: 10 years appropriate experience.
• Valid Code B/EB driver's licence.
• Ability to work under pressure.
• Willingness to be trained in Forensic Investigation and Dissection.
• Ability to work with and lift corpses, including mutilated, decomposed, infectious viruses, and obese bodies.
• Willingness to travel long distances and work standby duties / overtime.
• Computer and software literacy.
• Ability to be trained in 4x4 Vehicle handling.
• Ability to be trained in photography.
• Ability to communicate clearly and discreetly in person and in writing.
• Willingness to assist with duties in an X-ray room.
• Ability to achieve and maintain good interpersonal and working relations with staff and clients.
• Ability to interpret and apply policies.
• Required to deliver testimony in court proceedings.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

• Effective and efficient recovery, storage and processing of deceased.
• Render an effective forensic autopsy process in accordance with set standards and guidelines.
• Optimal control of reports and statements during and after the Forensic Mortuary process.
• Effective and efficient Management of Unknown corpses.
• Provide an efficient support service to the Manager with regard to Corporate and Clinical Governance functions of the Forensic Pathology Laboratory.
