Job Overview

Groote Schuur Hospital in Observatory is hiring a Food Services Supervisor. The role involves managing human and financial resources, supervising Food Service Assistants, and ensuring the efficient service of meals and beverages to patients. Candidates must have a Grade 9/GETC qualification, experience in large-scale food service, and knowledge of HACCP and dietary standards. The position requires flexibility to work shifts, including nights and weekends. Responsibilities include staff supervision, stock control, and maintaining strict hygiene and safety protocols in the kitchen.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Grade 9 (Std. 7) or General Education and Training Certificate (GETC)
• Appropriate experience in a large-scale food service environment
• Willingness to work late, weekends, night shifts, and be on call
• Knowledge of basic food groups, normal and therapeutic diets, and cooking methods
• Knowledge of Hygiene and Safety standards, HACCP, and Occupational Health and Safety
• Good leadership and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work under pressure
• Ability to handle industrial kitchen equipment

Key Duties & Responsibilities

• Assist the Manager with Human and Financial Resource Management
• Manage subordinates' quarterly SPMS reporting, training allocation, leave, and discipline
• Perform stock control of the Recon Kitchen
• Communicate with patients and ward staff regarding food service feedback
• Supervise and assist with the service of all meals and beverages to patients
• Ensure cleaning and maintenance of the kitchen area and equipment
• Adhere to and enforce hygiene and safety standards
• Supervise the service of evening tea/snacks and early morning coffee
• Supervise the cooking of porridge for breakfast
• Supervise Food Service Assistants (FSAs) in unloading/cleaning trolleys and washing crockery
• Supervise FSAs in the Food Service Unit across day and night shifts
