Job Overview

The Department of Agriculture, Western Cape Government is hiring a Farm Aid for Farm Services in Outeniqua under reference AGR 35/2026. The position offers a salary of R144 024 - R169 656 per annum (Level 02). Requirements include an Abet Level 2 certificate, knowledge of farm infrastructure, livestock care, and relevant physical and operational skills. Duties involve crop irrigation, livestock vaccination and dosing, waste disposal, and maintaining farm infrastructure and water supply systems. Requirements & Qualifications

• Abet level 2 certificate or equivalent.
• Knowledge and understanding of farm infrastructure construction and maintenance.
• Knowledge of general maintenance of infrastructure and general farmwork.
• Knowledge of working with farm animals and pastures.
• Written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to handle and carry weights of up to 50 kg.
• Numeracy and literacy skills.
• Driving and equipment operating skills.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

• Perform general activities in respect of crop production including irrigation of crops, soil cultivation and preparation (cleaning and hoeing).
• Perform general activities in respect of livestock including caring for sick livestock, dipping, vaccination, and dosing.
• Perform general cleaning of facilities and disposal of farm waste material.
• Perform general activities in respect of infrastructure including maintaining and building roads, fences, pipelines, canals, dams, drinking troughs, animal housing, and buildings.
• Maintain windmills and water supply systems.
