ENVIRONMENTAL OFFICER SPECIALISED PRODUCTION: INTEGRATED ENVIRONMENTAL AUTHORISATION

Job Overview

An Environmental Officer Specialised Production position is available in Pretoria (Reference: RCSM26/2026). The role requires an Honours Degree (NQF Level 8) in Environmental Sciences or equivalent, plus three years of relevant experience. Responsibilities include processing EIA decisions and NEMA section 24G applications, reviewing environmental reports, coordinating with stakeholders, conducting site inspections, and providing administrative and technical support.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Honours Degree (NQF Level 8) in Environmental Sciences or relevant equivalent qualification as recognised by SAQA.
• A minimum of three (3) years’ experience in Environmental Management or relevant field.
• Experience in processing EIA decisions and currently involved in the EIA sector.
• Appropriate knowledge and experience in the application of National Environmental Management Act as amended with specific reference to S24.
• Knowledge of National Environmental Management: Waste Act.
• Knowledge and experience of GN Regulation 982, 983, 984, 985 and 994 and its proposed amendments.
• Thorough knowledge of integrated environmental management and its application.
• Knowledge of sustainable development ideals and objectives.
• Working experience in the administration and review of EIA’s and the dynamics of EIA administration systems.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

• Process EIA (Environmental Integrated Authorisations) final decisions including receiving draft reports, commenting, reviewing information, and ensuring decisions are routed within timeframes.
• Process other EIA decisions and NEMA section 24G applications, including commenting on draft reports (BARs/SRs/EIRs), application forms, EA amendments, and EMPr approvals.
• Coordinate and interact with stakeholders, provide guidance during meetings and site visits, and attend project specific and pre-application meetings.
• Conduct site inspections and update project priority lists/databases.
• Respond to external queries and requests via email.
• Provide EIA administration and functional support to management and branches within the Department.
• Archive decision and project folders on EDMS and archive finalized files.
• Provide technical input to Appeals Response Reports (ARR’s).
