Job Overview

The Department of Water and Sanitation seeks an Engineer Production Grade A - C in Kimberley, Northern Cape. Candidates must hold a Civil Engineering degree, have three years of post-qualification experience, and be registered with ECSA as a Professional Engineer. Responsibilities include providing water and sanitation planning support, monitoring municipal projects, participating in the Green Drop Program, approving engineering works, and mentoring junior engineers.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Engineering Degree (B Eng / BSc Eng) in Civil Engineering
• Three (3) years post qualification engineering experience in the field of Water and Sanitation services
• Registration with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) as a Professional Engineer
• The disclosure of a valid unexpired driver’s license
• Knowledge of water and sanitation services engineering design and analysis
• Knowledge of Environmental impact management and Water Services Development Planning
• Knowledge of Supply chain management, contractual and legal requirements, and business planning
• Knowledge of Programme and project management, change management, and service delivery innovation (SDI)
• Problem solving, analysis, people management, empowerment, client orientation, customer focus, communication, accountability, and ethical conduct

Key Duties & Responsibilities

• Provide water and sanitation planning support including appraisal of technical reports and business plans and preparing recommendation letters
• Support municipalities in planning, implementation, and monitoring of water and sanitation projects using tools like Excreta Flow Diagrams and WSDPs
• Participate in the Green Drop Program and undertake site visits to verify progress
• Attend technical Intergovernmental Relations meetings in the province
• Ensure through evaluation that planning and design for sanitation services adhere to sound engineering principles, norms, standards, and codes of practice
• Approve engineering works according to prescribed norms and standards
• Investigate Water Services Delivery complaints and compile mandatory reports
• Provide technical support to the sanitation sub-directorate
• Build capacity and mentor young water services engineers and analysts
