Job Overview

The Department of Agriculture, Western Cape Government, is hiring a District Manager: Landcare in Eden. Responsibilities include managing agricultural disaster risk reduction, farm planning, natural agricultural resource conservation, stakeholder relations, financial management, and people management. Candidates must possess a relevant degree or diploma in Civil Engineering or Agriculture, at least 6 years of natural resources experience, and 3 years of managerial experience. Requirements & Qualifications

• National Diploma in Civil Engineering or Degree in Civil Engineering or appropriate B.Sc. Degree or appropriate B.Sc. Degree in Agriculture
• A minimum of 6 years’ experience required in natural resources
• 3 years managerial experience
• Knowledge of Land Conservation Act and financial schemes
• Knowledge of Protection of irrigated lands and Rehabilitation of agricultural lands
• Knowledge of Engineering services, Risk and disaster management practices and disaster relief schemes
• Knowledge of Public Finance Management Act (PFMA) and Treasury Regulations
• Knowledge of Legislation, regulatory frameworks, policies and best practices in respect of natural resource use and management
• Knowledge of Labour Relations legislation and Regulations
• Computer literacy in MS Office Package (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
• Communication skills (written and verbal)
• Negotiation, planning and organising skills
• Project Management and Report writing skills

Key Duties & Responsibilities

• Manage the administration of schemes and provision of agricultural disaster risk reduction (prevention, mitigation, preparedness, response and relief) support services
• Manage planning of farms and Landcare services in the conservation of the natural agricultural resources
• Render advice to stakeholders and promote integrated governmental relations and partnerships building
• Financial Management
• People Management
