DIRECTOR: INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS

Job Overview

The Gauteng Provincial Government is hiring a Director: International Relations in Johannesburg. The role requires an NQF Level 7 qualification in International Relations, Political Science, Public Administration, Law, Economics, or a related field, along with 5 years of middle/senior management experience. Responsibilities include developing the 5-Year International Relations Framework and Strategy, managing global partnerships, conducting policy analysis, coordinating with DIRCO, and overseeing the Directorate's financial and human resources.

Requirements & Qualifications

• An NQF Level 7 qualification in International Relations, Political Science, Public Administration/ Management, Development Studies, Law, Economics or related field.
• A post graduate Degree in the related fields would be an added advantage.
• 5 years of experience at a middle/senior managerial level.
• Extensive experience in international relations and para-diplomacy, Intergovernmental and stakeholder relations, Strategic planning and policy development.
• Programme and project management experience.
• Experience in managing international partnerships, protocols, and cooperation agreements.
• Experience in engagement with government departments, diplomatic missions, and international organisations.
• Demonstrate strategic leadership and directorate management capabilities.
• Strong stakeholder management, diplomacy communication, and negotiation skills.
• Ability to undertake policy development and analysis, provide strategic advice, conduct research, manage change, and make sound decisions based on evidence and analysis.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

• Conceptualise, Develop, implement and monitor the Gauteng Provincial Government (GPG) 5-Year International Relations Framework and Strategy.
• Coordinate and oversee the implementation of the annual International Relations Programme and monitor progress against strategic objectives.
• Conduct research, policy analysis and provide strategic advice on regional, continental and global issues to support provincial priorities and the Medium-Term Development Plan.
• Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of international relations initiatives, partnerships and bilateral engagements.
• Coordinate and facilitate international relations engagements, agreements and cooperation programmes in collaboration with DIRCO and GPG departments.
• Promote and integrate diplomatic principles across government engagements and programmes.
• Lead intergovernmental and stakeholder coordination on international relations matters and provide strategic support to decision-making structures.
• Manage the financial, human and operational resources of the Directorate, including budgeting, performance management, governance and compliance responsibilities.
