Job Overview

The Emergency Medical Services (Chief Directorate: Emergency and Clinical Services Support) is hiring seven sessional Cleaners working 10 hours per week on contracts until 31 March 2027 across multiple locations in the Western Cape including Montagu, Caledon, Vredendal, Vredenburg, Porterville, Grootbrak, and George. Requirements include basic numeracy and literacy skills and appropriate cleaning experience in a healthcare environment. Duties involve cleaning offices, kitchens, and ablution facilities, waste disposal, and operating heavy-duty cleaning equipment. Applications must be submitted online.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Minimum educational qualification: Basic numeracy and literacy skills.
• Appropriate experience as a Cleaner in a hospital/health facility environment.
• The ability to do physical tasks and operate heavy duty cleaning machinery and household equipment.
• Willingness to rotate in different departments according to operational needs and requirements.
• Knowledge of the correct methods of handling and disposal of refuse/waste products and adherence to policy and cleaning practices.
• Good interpersonal skills.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

• Cleaning of all offices, common areas, kitchens and ablution facilities of the facility, including deep cleaning and detailed cleaning tasks.
• Provide a clean, safe, and hygienic environment to prevent injuries and the spread of infection which includes sweeping, scrubbing, mopping of floors, dusting, polishing of floors and furniture, emptying bins daily, cleaning of windows, light shades, walls and all toilets, sluices and drains.
• Ensure that cleaning equipment e.g., polishing and scrubbing machines, mops, brooms, buckets etc. are clean after usage and securely stored.
• Ensure removal of waste from building daily.
• Notify management of deficiencies or repairs required.
• Provide relief services according to the needs of the service.
