CHIEF RADIOGRAPHER GRADE 1 (DIAGNOSTIC: TRAUMA)

Job Overview

Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital in Rondebosch is seeking a Chief Radiographer Grade 1 (Diagnostic: Trauma). The role involves managing radiographic services in the Trauma Unit, performing advanced CT imaging, general radiography, and supervising staff. Applicants must possess an appropriate qualification, current registration with the HPCSA in Diagnostic Radiography, and a minimum of 3 years of post-registration experience. Key competencies include knowledge of radiation protection, paediatric protocols, computer literacy, and strong supervisory and organisational skills.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Appropriate qualification that allows registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) in Diagnostic Radiography.
• Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) in Diagnostic Radiography.
• A minimum of 3 years’ relevant experience in Diagnostic Radiography after registration with the HPCSA.
• Must be able to work with paediatric patients and be prepared to work with patients with acute medical conditions.
• Willingness to rotate through Trauma, CT, fluoroscopy, theatre, mobiles, and general x-rays.
• Willingness to participate in the 24-hour service of the department.
• Thorough knowledge of radiation protection, quality assurance, and equipment safety.
• Full competency in advanced CT scan working independently.
• Knowledge of paediatric protocols.
• Computer literacy (MS Windows, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
• Good interpersonal, supervisory, organisational, decision-making, and conflict resolution skills.
• Knowledge of the Staff Performance Management System.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

• Manage the radiographic service in the Trauma Unit.
• Manage and perform general radiography, fluoroscopy, mobile radiography, theatre, and Lodox.
• Perform advanced CT imaging as required by the department.
• Be responsible for staff and student teaching and training.
• Manage radiography and support personnel, including conducting performance appraisals.
• Ensure quality assurance in the department across all modalities and the use of suitable radiation protection.
• Engage with vendors regarding the maintenance of equipment of all modalities.
• Provide statistics and report on daily activities and equipment status.
