Job Overview

Chief Oral Hygienist Grade 1 position available within the Metro Health Services at the Oral Health Centre, Tygerberg/Mitchell’s Plain Platform. Responsibilities include comprehensive oral hygiene care, health promotion, community outreach, student teaching, clinical supervision, and research. Candidates must hold an appropriate qualification, be registered with the HPCSA as an Oral Hygienist, possess a valid driver's license (Code B/EB), and have at least 3 years of post-registration experience along with teaching and research background.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Appropriate qualification that allows registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as an Oral Hygienist.
• Registration with the HPCSA as an Oral Hygienist.
• Valid driver's license (Code B/EB).
• A minimum of 3 years appropriate experience in the relevant profession after registration with the HPCSA as an Oral Hygienist.
• Good Computer literacy (MS Word, Excel and Outlook).
• Good interpersonal skills and ability to perform effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Professional ethics.
• Appropriate experience in teaching and learning.
• Appropriate experience in research activities.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive oral hygiene assessment, diagnosis, preventive and therapeutic treatment within the Scope of Practice.
• Deliver oral health promotion and disease prevention programmes.
• Participate in community-based oral health services and outreach initiatives.
• Deliver undergraduate and postgraduate theoretical, clinical and community-based teaching.
• Provide effective clinical supervision and mentorship.
• Conduct and contribute to clinical, public health and oral health research.
• Contribute to effective departmental, faculty and institutional leadership and governance.
• Coordinate designated academic, clinical and administrative responsibilities.
