CHIEF ARTISAN GRADE A: MECHANICAL

Job Overview

The Free State Department seeks three Chief Artisans Grade A in Mechanical based in Bloemfontein with a salary of R499 470 per annum. Requirements include Grade 12, a valid driver's license, a Trade Test Certificate (Red Seal) in Diesel Mechanical, 10 years' artisan experience, and 2 years in a supervisory role involving vehicles, heavy vehicles, or construction plant. Requirements & Qualifications

• A minimum of Grade 12 or equivalent.
• A valid driver's license.
• An appropriate Trade Test Certificate (Red Seal) in Diesel Mechanical.
• A minimum of ten (10) years' experience as an Artisan and/or Artisan Foreman in the relevant trade.
• Experience in vehicles, heavy vehicle, construction plant, earthmoving equipment or related technical maintenance environments.
• At least two (2) years' experience in a supervisory role.
• Ability to perform duties in offices, workshops, districts and field/operational sites.
• A post-matric qualification will be an added advantage.
• Knowledge and skills in project management, technical design, diagnostics and analysis, vehicle plant and equipment mechanical systems, computer-aided technical and diagnostic applications, relevant statutory compliance, technical report writing and consulting, maintenance and production processes, problem solving and decision making, quality assurance, financial and resource management, people management, change management, communication, computer skills, and planning and organising.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

• Manage technical services and support across field, workshop, district and technical office activities within the mechanical discipline.
• Manage and coordinate maintenance, repairs, inspections, complex diagnostics, technical assessments and operational priorities.
• Ensure quality assurance and compliance with technical, safety, statutory and regulatory requirements.
• Manage Artisan Foremen, Artisans and related technical personnel, resources and assets.
• Provide input into technical procedures, operational plans and budgets, and compile technical and management reports.
• Monitor expenditure and promote the efficient utilisation of resources.
• Manage staff performance and development, provide senior technical advice and support, and manage conflict where required.
• Maintain and advance technical expertise and support continuous improvement and the introduction of appropriate technologies.
• Engage formally and regularly with relevant stakeholders and manage stakeholder meetings at technical and district levels.
