ASSISTANT DIRECTOR: PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Job Overview

The Department of Tourism seeks an Assistant Director: Professional Development based in Pretoria. The role requires an NQF 6 qualification in Public Management, Public Administration, Tourism Management, or Human Resource Development, along with 3 to 4 years of relevant experience including 2 years at a senior practitioner level. Key duties involve coordinating professional development, managing stakeholder relations, and implementing Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) frameworks within the tourism sector. The salary is R605 742 per annum.

Requirements & Qualifications

• A recognised NQF 6 qualification in Public Management, Public Administration, Tourism Management, or Human Resource Development.
• A minimum of 3 to 4 years of relevant experience in the appropriate environment.
• At least 2 years of experience at a Senior practitioner level.
• Strong knowledge and understanding of administrative procedures.
• Knowledge of financial delegations.
• Knowledge of project management.
• Knowledge of financial management.
• Knowledge of the Skills Development Act and professionalisation.
• Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Good organising and planning skills.
• Creativity, facilitation skills, and leadership skills.
• A valid driver's licence (Persons with disabilities that prevent them from driving will still be considered).

Key Duties & Responsibilities

• Creating a culture of excellence, including professionalisation.
• Identifying relevant stakeholders and managing the maintenance of an updated stakeholder database.
• Facilitating secretariat responsibilities for engagements.
• Coordinating continued professional development.
• Facilitating the establishment of working groups or task teams to create synergy on the implementation of skills programmes.
• Providing monthly and quarterly programme progress report updates.
• Developing SLAs and MOAs for potential partners and service providers.
• Collaborating with relevant bodies to introduce mechanisms to facilitate the introduction of an RPL system within the tourism sector.
• Creating oversight mechanisms for government programmes.
• Coordinating Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) in tourism sector human resource development.
• Developing a project plan for the implementation of the RPL skills training programme.
• Conducting quality assurance of documents received from service providers e.g. reports and invoices.
• Conducting onsite monitoring of projects/programmes under implementation.
• Reporting progress of RPL skills training implemented by appointed service provider/s.
