ASSISTANT DIRECTOR: LABOUR RELATIONS

Job Overview

The Department seeks two Assistant Directors: Labour Relations based in Mahikeng Head Office (Ref No: 31/2026/2027) with a salary of R487 197 per annum. Candidates must possess a National Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Labour Relations/Law/Industrial Relations, a valid driver's license, and 3 to 5 years of experience including 2 years at a supervisory level. Responsibilities include investigating grievances and misconduct, conducting disciplinary hearings, representing the department at conciliations, arbitrations, and collective bargaining structures, and managing unit personnel.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Matric (Grade 12) certificate or equivalent
• National Diploma / Bachelor's Degree (NQF6/7) in Labour Relations, Labour Law, or Industrial Relations
• Valid driver's license
• 3 to 5 years relevant working experience in the field of Labour Relations
• 2 years of experience must be at a Supervisory (Salary Level 7/8) level
• Knowledge of Labour Legislations, Acts, Public Service Policies / Regulations, and Collective Bargaining Agreements
• Ability to work under pressure
• Ability to develop and interpret policies
• Computer literacy in Microsoft packages
• Research, conflict resolution, interpersonal, and communication skills (verbal and report writing)
• Analytic investigation and presentation skills

Key Duties & Responsibilities

• Facilitate and investigate grievances
• Investigate misconduct and conduct disciplinary hearings
• Represent the employer at conciliations and arbitrations
• Represent the department at Collective Bargaining structures and at the Provincial Labour Relations Forum
• Compile various Labour Relations reports
• Advise management on Labour Relations issues
• Manage strike situations
• Manage the performance of personnel within the unit
• Drive capacity building in the department
