ASSISTANT DIRECTOR: INTERNAL AUDIT

Job Overview

An Assistant Director: Internal Audit position is available at Head Office in East London (Reference: DHS04/09/2026). The role requires a National Senior Certificate, a National Diploma (NQF Level 6) or Bachelor's Degree (NQF Level 7) in Risk Management, Internal Auditing, BCom Accounting, or BCOMPT, along with 3 years of supervisory experience and compulsory registration with the Institute of Internal Auditors South Africa. Requirements & Qualifications

• National Senior Certificate
• National Diploma (NQF level 6) or Bachelor's Degree (NQF level 7) in Risk Management, Internal Auditing, BCom Accounting, or BCOMPT as recognized by SAQA
• 3 years supervisory level experience in the field
• Compulsory registration with the Institute of Internal Auditors South Africa (IIASA)
• Knowledge of Public Sector governance and legislation
• Knowledge of departmental policies and operational procedures
• Knowledge of internal auditing principles, methodologies and practices
• Knowledge of risk management principles and frameworks
• Knowledge of financial management and accounting principles
• Knowledge of performance information auditing and compliance auditing
• Ability to analyse data
• Good communication, project management, presentation, and report writing skills
• Analytical and critical thinking, investigation, and evaluation skills
• Computer literate
• Valid driver's licence

Key Duties & Responsibilities

• Facilitate the audit planning process and identify internal audits using the Internal Audit Plan
• Organise team briefing meetings and create audit files on teammate
• Conduct preliminary surveys, prepare memoranda for draft audit planning, and lead pre-engagement meetings with clients
• Guide and review internal auditors on the preparation of systems descriptions, risk matrix, and audit programmes
• Monitor day-to-day execution, review working papers, and supervise the internal audit team
• Prepare internal audit reports, present draft reports to management, and organise closing meetings with auditees
• Facilitate the monitoring of agreed action plans and update the Internal Audit Finding Register
• Manage resources, performance, employment relations, and conditions of service within the directorate
• Facilitate coaching, mentorship, training, and development of subordinates
• Attend to Internal Audit and Auditor-General's RFIs, audit outcomes, and findings
• Draft Audit Committee Chairperson Forum (ACCF) and Chief Audit Executive (CAE) reports
