ARTISAN PLUMBER

Job Overview

An exciting vacancy exists for an Artisan Plumber at St Chads CHC under reference STC02/2026. The successful candidate will be responsible for installing, repairing, and maintaining geysers, ablution facilities, sewerage reticulation, and clearing blocked drains. Applicants must possess a Grade 12 certificate, an accredited plumbing trade test certificate, relevant experience (Grade A: 0-2 years or Grade B: 14+ years), a valid driver's license, and knowledge of OHS standards. Requirements & Qualifications

• Grade 12 (senior certificate) N3/NQL 3.
• Passing a trade test in plumbing in terms of section (1 392) of the manpower training act 1981, as amended.
• Artisan Grade A: 0-2 years’ experience in plumbing field OR Artisan Grade B: At least 14 years’ appropriate/recognizable experience in an area after obtaining the relevant trade certificate.
• Valid driver’s license Code 8/10.
• Work experience (certificate of service) endorsed by HR Office.
• Certificate in Records Management.
• Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety and safety standards.
• Knowledge of basic maintenance and repair of broken pipes.
• Knowledge of safety systems of work.
• Ability to work independently and under pressure.
• Good communication skills (both verbal and written).
• Knowledge of Batho Pele principles.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

• Installation, repairs and maintenance of high pressure and low-pressure geysers.
• Installation and repairs to toilets, urinals, showers, baths, and other ablution facilities.
• Installation and repair to water sewerage reticulation systems.
• Clear blocked drains, gutters, down pipes, wastewater lines, and branch lines.
• Take and record water supply readings daily and perform maintenance on fire hose main supplies.
• Daily reporting of faults, job progress, and completion of job cards/time sheets as per auditor’s instructions.
• Visit primary health care clinics to perform maintenance duties when required.
• Compile and submit technical reports and provide input on technical report compilation.
• Form part of a multi-disciplinary team doing rounds in the hospital and clinics to fix identified shortfalls.
• Perform overtime, standby duties, and after-hours call outs when required.
• Take responsibility for in-house training and advancement of subordinates.
• Keep an up-to-date equipment register and manage issued materials.
• Adhere strictly to safe working practices in accordance with the O.H. & S Act 85/1993.
