Job Overview

Dr Pixley Ka Isaka Seme Memorial Hospital seeks a Speech Therapist (Grade 1, 2, or 3) in KwaZulu-Natal. Requirements & Qualifications

• Grade 1: No experience required after registration as Speech Therapist.
• Grade 2: Minimum of 10 years relevant experience after registration as Speech Therapist.
• Grade 3: Minimum of 20 years relevant experience after registration as Speech Therapist.
• Senior Certificate / Grade 12
• National Diploma or Degree in Speech Therapy
• Current registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Speech Therapist
• Certificate of service endorsed by HR department from previous and current employer required for shortlisted candidates
• Unendorsed valid Code B driver's licence (Code 08)
• Proficient in IsiZulu
• Knowledge of speech therapy paediatric and general diagnostic and therapeutic procedures
• Knowledge of departmental administrative tasks, ethical code, and scope of practice
• Supervisory skills for junior staff and students

Key Duties & Responsibilities

• Provision of effective and comprehensive assessment and treatment for paediatrics and general speech therapy services to all patients
• Perform paediatric dysphagia assessments and management
• Provide comprehensive caregiver training, patient education, and related counseling
• Perform outreach services, group therapy, block therapy, and home, school, or community visits as needed
• Maintain confidentiality and apply an ethical multidisciplinary approach to patient treatment
• Perform administrative work related to patient care including report-writing and statistics
• Participate in meetings, case conferences, and draft legal reports such as for disability grants and medico-legal work
• Contribute to quality improvement plan initiatives including clinical guidelines, teaching, training, and audits
• Communicate effectively with patients, NGOs, caregivers, and other stakeholders
• Ensure professional development in line with the patient care profile and support supervisors in projects
