SOCIAL AUXILIARY WORKER: SOCIAL WORK SERVICES

Job Overview

The Western Cape Government Department of Social Development is seeking two Social Auxiliary Workers based in Atlantis under reference DSD 91/2026. Candidates must hold a Grade 10 certificate, have completed the SAW learnership, and be registered with the SACSSP. Responsibilities include supporting social workers in delivering welfare services to vulnerable groups, addressing social instability, and performing administrative duties. The salary ranges from Grade 1 to Grade 3 as per OSD.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Grade 10 plus completion of the Social Auxiliary Worker (SAW) learnership
• Registration with the South African Council for Social Service Professions (SACSSP) as a Social Auxiliary Worker
• Knowledge and basic understanding of human behaviour, relationship systems, and social issues
• Understanding of the South African Social Welfare context, policies, and practices of developmental social welfare services
• Knowledge of the South African judicial system and legislation governing social auxiliary work
• Ability to implement appropriate social auxiliary work methods and techniques
• Basic knowledge of financial matters related to social auxiliary work
• Information and Knowledge Management skills including record keeping and report writing
• Good written and verbal communication skills
• Proven computer literacy
• Organising, planning, presentation, and facilitation skills
• Problem-solving and analytical skills
• Client orientation and customer focus
• Ability to work effectively with social workers and multi-sectoral teams

Key Duties & Responsibilities

• Provide assistance and support to social workers with the rendering of social work services regarding care, support, protection, and development of vulnerable individuals, groups, families, and communities
• Assist social workers in attending to matters that could result in or stem from social instability
• Engage in continuous professional development
• Perform administrative support functions in support of social workers as required
