SENIOR STATE ACCOUNTANT: FINANCIAL ACCOUNTING (X2 POSTS)

Job Overview

The Department of Health is hiring two Senior State Accountants for Financial Accounting at Head Office in Cape Town, with a salary of R413 001 per annum. Candidates must possess a three-year National Diploma or Degree in Accounting or Auditing, relevant accounting experience, a valid driver's licence, and knowledge of frameworks like IFRS, GRAP, MCS, BAS, and LOGIS. Key responsibilities include reviewing and consolidating financial inputs for financial statements, maintaining audit files, drafting policies, and answering audit enquiries.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Minimum educational qualification: An appropriate three-year National Diploma or Degree in Accounting or Auditing.
• Appropriate experience in an accounting environment and preparation of financial statements.
• A valid code B/EB driver’s licence and willingness to travel.
• Extensive knowledge of the compilation of Financial Statements.
• Advanced computer literacy in Microsoft Office applications (Excel spreadsheets, Word documents, MS PowerPoint presentations).
• Analytical and presentation skills.
• Working experience of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and/or International Standards on Auditing.
• Knowledge of Modified Cash Standard (MCS) and/or Generally Recognised Accounting Practice (GRAP) Standards.
• Knowledge of BAS, LOGIS and completed SAICA articles or similar.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

• Responsible for the review and consolidation of financial inputs used in the compilation of Annual and Interim Financial Statements (AFS/IFS) of the Department of Health.
• Maintain Head Office disclosure notes Audit File.
• Analyse and advise on changes to the Modified Cash Standards, Accounting Manual for Departments and departmental policies and delegations relating to relevant disclosure notes linked to operations.
• Verify monthly Disclosure Note Reporting.
• Compile and develop procedures and policies in respect of internal controls and AFS/IFS requirements.
• Answering Audit enquiries.
• Human Resource Management and Monitoring.
