REGISTRAR (FAMILY MEDICINE) (4-Year Contract) Overberg District

Job Overview

A 4-year contract post for a Registrar in Family Medicine is available at Hermanus Hospital, Overstrand Sub-District within the Overberg District. Responsibilities include providing quality patient care, outreach and support to PHC facilities, clinical governance, training, and completing an MMED. Applicants must be registered with the HPCSA as a Medical Practitioner for Independent Practice, hold a valid driver's license, and possess relevant district-level clinical experience.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Appropriate qualification allowing registration with the Health Professionals Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Medical Practitioner.
• Registration with the HPCSA as Medical Practitioner (Independent Practice).
• Valid (code B/EB/C1) driver’s license.
• Compulsory Remunerated Commuted Overtime (COT) duties.
• Sound knowledge of general medical and surgical conditions at district hospital and Primary Health Care level.
• Comprehensive evidence-informed, direct patient-centered approaches to care.
• Clinical service provision in district level health care services.
• Computer literacy (MS Excel, Word, Outlook etc.) and good interpersonal, organisational and teamwork skills.
• Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
• Recent experience with performing district level procedures including performance of caesarian sections, administration of spinal and general anaesthesia, management of chronic conditions and HIV/TB care, maternal and child health as well as emergency medical care including adult and neonatal resuscitations.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

• Provide quality health care to patients in the Overstrand sub-district including Hermanus Hospital and surrounding clinics, healthcare facilities and communities as part of community oriented primary care.
• Provide Outreach and Support service to PHC facilities and communities in the Overstrand sub-district.
• Actively participate in skills transfer, training, teaching and academic opportunities relevant to the post.
• Active involvement in the clinical governance of Overstrand sub-district facilities as required.
• Perform administrative duties and support the Sub-district management team while maintaining professional ethical standards.
• Conduct research and professional development including completion of MMED.
