Job Overview

The Overberg District (Overstrand Sub-district) is hiring Professional Nurses (Grade 1 to 3) specializing in Primary Health Care and Wellness. Applicants must hold a basic R425 nursing qualification or a 4-year Bachelor Degree in Nursing and be registered with the SANC. Experience ranges from none for Grade 1 up to 20 years for Grade 3. Responsibilities include coordinating wellness initiatives, community-orientated primary care, and managing intersectoral partnerships. A valid driver's license and computer literacy are required.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Minimum educational qualification: Basic R425 qualification (i.e. Diploma/Degree in Nursing) or equivalent qualification that allows registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse, OR a 4-year Bachelor Degree in Nursing.
• Registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse.
• Experience: Grade 1: None; Grade 2: Minimum of 10 years appropriate/recognizable experience in nursing after registration at SANC; Grade 3: Minimum of 20 years appropriate/recognizable experience in nursing after registration with SANC.
• Valid (Code B/EB/C1) driver’s license.
• Willingness to work overtime when necessary and relieve duties at other clinics in the sub-district.
• Basic computer skills in MS Word, Excel, Outlook.
• Ability to function/make decisions independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
• Good communication, interpersonal relationships, exceptional leadership and conflict resolution skills.
• Knowledge of relevant legislation and policies of the Department of Health Western Cape.
• NIMART, BANC trained or experience.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

• External interface management planning, coordination and implementation of wellness initiatives and interventions to implement community-orientated primary care.
• Intersectoral interface management with strong organizational linkages and partnerships with outside stakeholders, sectors, departments, NGOs, and community structures.
• Provide direction and supervision for the implementation of quality comprehensive care within the Primary Health Care context.
• Maintain ethical practice within legal and regulatory framework.
• Maintain a constructive working relationship with all relevant stakeholders of the Primary Health Care Team.
• Utilize human, material, and physical resources efficiently and effectively.
• Participate in training programmes and research activities.
• Maintain workplace discipline of subordinates.
• Co-ordinate wellness activities with a focus on Western Cape on Wellness (WoW!) to support all chronic conditions.
• Co-ordinate wellness activities for men, women, adolescents, youth and with a focus on the 1st 1000 Day initiative.
