Job Overview

Stellenbosch Hospital within the Cape Winelands Health District is hiring a Professional Nurse Grade 1 to 2 for Trauma, Emergency, and OPD. Candidates must possess a basic nursing qualification, registration with SANC as a Professional Nurse, and a post-basic qualification or post-graduate diploma in Critical Care or Emergency Nursing. Experience requirements range from 4 to 14 years depending on the grade. Duties include ensuring quality patient care, supervising specialized clinical nursing, and efficiently managing resources.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Minimum educational qualification: Basic R425 qualification (i.e. diploma/degree in nursing) or equivalent qualification that allows registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse.
• A post-basic nursing qualification with a duration of at least 1 year accredited with the SANC in Medical and Surgical Nursing Science: Critical Care Nursing (General) or Medical Surgical Nursing Science: Emergency Nursing (R212); OR A 4-year bachelor’s degree in nursing (R174) or equivalent qualification that allows registration with SANC as a Professional Nurse and a post-graduate diploma in Critical Care Nursing (Adult) or Emergency Nursing (R635).
• Registration with SANC as a Professional Nurse.
• Grade 1 Experience: A minimum of 4 years appropriate/recognizable experience in nursing after registration as a Professional Nurse with the SANC in General Nursing.
• Grade 2 Experience: A minimum of 14 years appropriate/recognizable experience in nursing after registration as Professional Nurse with the SANC in General Nursing, with at least 10 years after obtaining the 1-year post-basic qualification or post-basic diploma in the relevant specialty.
• Inherent requirements: Willingness to work shifts, day and night duty, weekends, and public holidays to meet operational requirements and deputize for the Operational Manager: Emergency Centre.
• Competencies: Knowledge of relevant legislation and policies of the Department of Health and Wellness Western Cape; skills to plan, organize, and coordinate services; leadership towards realizing strategic goals.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

• Ensure quality patient care regarding the identification of nursing needs, planning, and implementation of nursing care plans as a Professional Nurse in the Trauma and Emergency department.
• Render and supervise specialized clinical nursing care and support clinical staff with medical and surgical procedures.
• Utilize human, material, and physical resources effectively and efficiently.
• Maintain and promote professional growth, ethical standards, and the development of self and others.
• Display the core values of the Department of Health and Wellness WCG in the execution of duties while practicing within legislation, regulation, and protocols applicable to the public service.
