Job Overview

Chief Directorate: Metro Health Services, New Somerset Hospital, is hiring three Professional Nurses Grade 1 to 2 specialized in Theatre and Day Ward. Candidates must possess a basic nursing qualification, registration with SANC as a Professional Nurse, and a post-basic qualification in Medical and Surgical Nursing Science: Operating Theatre or Peri-operative Nursing. Experience ranges from 4 to 14 years depending on the grade. Responsibilities include providing safe patient care in theatre, infection prevention and control (IPC) adherence, record keeping, and supervising students. Requirements & Qualifications

• Basic R425 qualification (diploma/degree in nursing) or equivalent allowing registration with SANC as a Professional Nurse.
• A post-basic nursing qualification with a duration of at least 1 year accredited with SANC in Medical and Surgical Nursing Science: Operating Theatre, OR a 4-year Bachelor Degree in Nursing (R174) or equivalent with a post-graduate diploma (R635) accredited with SANC in Peri-operative Nursing.
• Registration with SANC as a Professional Nurse.
• Grade 1 Experience: Minimum of 4 years appropriate/recognizable experience in nursing after registration as a Professional Nurse with SANC in General Nursing.
• Grade 2 Experience: Minimum of 14 years appropriate/recognizable experience in nursing after registration as Professional Nurse with SANC in General Nursing, with at least 10 years after obtaining the 1-year post-basic qualification or post-graduate diploma in the relevant specialty.
• Willingness to work shifts, day and night duty, weekends, and public holidays.
• Prepared to assist in all departments according to operational requirements.
• Good communication, interpersonal relationships, exceptional leadership, and conflict resolution skills.
• Ability to function/make decisions independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
• Practical knowledge and experience in the operating theatre.
• Basic computer skills in MS Word, Excel, Outlook.
• Knowledge of relevant legislation and policies of the Department of Health Western Cape.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

• Provide safe and comprehensive care delivered to patients in theatre.
• Provision of optimal, holistic specialised care with set standards within professional/legal framework.
• Ensure adherence to the principles of IPC practices in the theatre.
• Ensure accurate record keeping for statistical and legal purposes.
• Support and supervise students and subordinates in theatre.
• Effective utilization of resources.
