Job Overview

George Regional Hospital is hiring a Professional Nurse Grade 1 to 2 (Specialty: Occupational Health & Safety) within the Chief Directorate: Rural Health Services. Candidates must possess a basic nursing qualification, registration with SANC as a Professional Nurse, and a post-basic qualification or postgraduate diploma in Occupational Health Nursing, along with relevant nursing experience ranging from 4 to 14 years. Responsibilities include developing and managing occupational medical surveillance programmes, clinical services for staff, risk mitigation, and compliance. A valid driver's licence and computer literacy are required.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Basic R425 qualification (diploma/degree in nursing) or equivalent allowing registration with SANC as a Professional Nurse.
• A post-basic nursing qualification with a duration of at least 1 year accredited with SANC in Occupational Health Nursing (R212), OR a 4-year Bachelor Degree in Nursing (R174) or equivalent with a post-graduate diploma accredited in Occupational Health Nursing.
• Registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse.
• Grade 1 Experience: Minimum of 4 years appropriate/recognisable experience in nursing after registration as Professional Nurse with SANC.
• Grade 2 Experience: Minimum of 14 years appropriate/recognisable experience in nursing after registration as Professional Nurse, with at least 10 years after obtaining the 1-year post-basic qualification or post-graduate diploma in the relevant specialty.
• Valid driver's licence (Code B/EB).
• Willingness to work overtime and flexible hours if necessary.
• Knowledge of the ethical and legal framework of Acts, Regulations, Rules and Governmental Policies governing Occupational Health and Safety in the Western Cape.
• Skills to plan, organise, and coordinate services through analysis, problem-solving, and decision-making.
• Computer literacy skills (MS Office: Word, Excel, Outlook).

Key Duties & Responsibilities

• Develop, manage and implement an effective Occupational Medical Surveillance Programme in the hospital.
• Coordinate and manage an effective Occupational Health (OH) Clinical Service for staff.
• Identify and mitigate occupational risks in the hospital.
• Ensure governance, compliance, and management of Occupational Health Services.
• Conduct training, capacity building, and occupational health awareness.
