Job Overview

Knysna Hospital in the Garden Route District is hiring a Professional Nurse: Grade 1 to 2 (Specialty: Maternity and Neonatal). Candidates must possess a basic nursing qualification and a post-basic qualification in Advanced Midwifery and Neonatal Nursing Science, along with registration with the SANC. Responsibilities include providing specialized patient care, implementing infection control policies, resource management, and participating in health research and quality improvement initiatives. Willingness to work shifts, night duty, and weekends is required.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Minimum educational qualification: Basic R425 qualification (i.e. Diploma/Degree in Nursing) or equivalent qualification that allows registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse.
• A post-basic nursing qualification with a duration of at least 1 year accredited with the SANC Advance Midwifery and Neonatal Nursing Science (R212), OR a 4-year bachelor’s degree in nursing (R174) or equivalent qualification, plus a post-graduate diploma (R635) accredited with the SANC in Midwifery.
• Registration with the SANC as a Professional Nurse.
• Grade 1 Experience: A minimum of 4 years appropriate / recognisable experience in nursing after registration as a Professional Nurse with the SANC in General Nursing.
• Grade 2 Experience: A minimum of 14 years appropriate / recognisable experience in nursing after registration as a Professional Nurse with the SANC in General Nursing, with at least 10 years after obtaining the 1-year post-basic qualification or postgraduate diploma in the relevant specialty.
• Inherent requirements: Willingness to work shifts, night duty, overtime, public holidays and weekends.
• Good communication skills (both written and verbal).
• Appropriate supervisory skills and optimal utilisation of subordinates.
• Knowledge of Maternal & Neonatal Health Care services within a hospital setting, occupational health/ staff wellness and principles of infection prevention and -control.
• Ability to manage consumable resources effectively.
• Computer literacy.

• Provision of specialized quality patient care and health service delivery.
• Effective implementation of infection control policies and health and safety legislation.
• Effective utilization of all human- and physical resources.
• Assist with Financial management and cost containment.
• Participate in health research, data collection & quality improvement initiatives.
• Provision of Support to Nursing Services.
